Plastic, along with aluminum and paper, is recyclable in recycling bins. However, recycling plastic is subject to rules and regulations. Only certain types of plastic can be recycled in recycling bins.
As a general rule, all plastics that you intend to recycle should be cleaned out thoroughly in order to prevent food contamination. One contaminated plastic item is enough to ruin thousands of pounds of recycled material. The recycling codes at the bottom of the plastic items are sometimes an indicator of whether plastic is acceptable by your curbside recycling program. However, all curbside recycling programs have different rules. Check your program's rules before setting out your recyclable plastics.
