Baking soda and vinegar make excellent solutions for washing shower curtains in the washing machine. Place the plastic shower curtain and two bath towels in the machine and set to the gentle cycle. Pour in one-half cup baking soda during the first cycle, then add one-half cup vinegar during its rinse cycle. Do not place the shower curtain in the dryer, but let it hang dry instead. For white shower curtains, bleach is also effective. Include one-half cup chlorine bleach with one-fourth cup laundry detergent, setting the machine to warm water. Let the machine run for a few minutes before putting in the shower curtain.
