Glass canning jars can be put in the oven to bake or to be sanitized. The glass is durable enough to withstand hot oven temperatures.
Baked goods and dishes are often made directly in the canning jar and cooked at the proper temperature. Sanitize cans by putting all lids, bands and glass jars onto a cookie sheet or roasting pan, leaving space for heat to go in between each item. Heat the oven to 225 degrees for 20 minutes, leaving the oven door closed the entire time. Remove all canning jar items after they are cooled and use as normal for preserving or packing.
