As of 2015, Maytag has discontinued the Neptune line of washers. However, the company notes on its official website that some Neptune washers may still be available from either its Outlet Store or local retailers. Customers can find replacement parts for these washers from the company's official replacement parts partner.
Maytag discontinued the Neptune line of front-loading washers in part due to problems with machines developing unpleasant odors, mold and mildew. These problems eventually led to Maytag settling a large class action lawsuit in 2005, which had been brought against them by customers who complained of clothes being covered with mold and their washing machines not functioning properly. The problems were determined to be a result of issues with the door latch, motor control, wax motor and various related circuit boards.
More than 2 million customers were covered by the settlement, which entitled anyone who bought a Maytag Neptune washing machine between April 1, 1997 and Aug. 9, 2004 to compensation in the form of repair reimbursements or replacement costs. Some customers may also be entitled to a certificate of up to $1,000 for the purchase of a new Maytag washer if the company is unable to repair the machine.
