You can paint tile using techniques and products that help the paint bond to the tile's surface. Avoid painting tiles in areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, where constant exposure to water can cause the paint to peel quickly.
Prepare tile for painting by cleaning it thoroughly with a grease-cutting industrial-strength cleaner, such as tri-sodium phosphate. Remove any mold or mildew from the tiles or grout. Sand the clean, dry tiles with sandpaper of 400 grit or higher to remove any remaining build-up and roughen the surface. Wipe the tiles thoroughly with a tack cloth. Prime the tile with an epoxy primer for better durability. When the primer is completely dry, paint the tiles with a high-gloss or semi-gloss paint.
