To remove the smell of gasoline from clothing, multiple cleaning agents must be used to first remove any remaining gasoline and then to remove any residual odor. Gasoline can be one of the most difficult stains and smells to remove from clothing.
After all remaining gasoline is blotted away with a cloth, baking soda should be sprinkled on the stain, allowed to sit and washed away. The baking soda absorbs the gasoline, and this step can be repeated as many times as necessary. Dish soap can also be used to remove gasoline because it breaks down the oil. To remove the odor, a strong liquid with an equally strong odor, such as vinegar, can remove the smell permanently.
