Sears PartsDirect lists error codes for both front-load and top-load GE washers to help diagnose a problem with the machine. For each error code, this resource provides the condition of the machine, repairs to perform and any parts needed if replacement is necessary.
In top-load GE models, an inverter control has a diagnostic LED light to indicate any problems with the washer. The LED light flashes a certain number of times depending on the issue and continues to flash until the machine is fixed and the inverter control is reset. Most problems with the washer relate to the drive motor. If a certain error code flashes, or a repair of another part does not fix the problem, the drive motor usually needs to be replaced.
In front-load GE models, the machine gives an actual error code corresponding to a condition, repair or replacement part. For example, the error code E23 means the washer is overfilled with water. Resolve this issue involves checking the water inlet valve assembly to make sure that it shuts off water flow properly. If the washer continues to fill with water, even when the power is off, the water valve assembly must be replaced. If the washer is not filled with water when the error code comes up, the water level sensor must be replaced.
