Langstroth bee hive plans are available at The SelfSufficientLiving.com and Bee-On-The-Net.com. The SelfSufficientLiving.com offers free Langstroth beehive plans that are available in PDF format for downloading.
Each plan contains material requirements, a photo guide, measurements and assembly. This site also provides links to beekeeping supplies and woodwork, beehive removal, organic honey and information about urban beekeeping.
Bee-On-The-Net.com features a Langstroth hive on its “Build a Beehive” page that is available for download. The plan consists of a number of boxes that are open at the bottom and top. The deeper boxes contain the brood nest while the shallow boxes hold the honey. A weather-proof box is placed on top and a floor on the bottom. Bee-On-The-Net.com also provides links to swarm removals, and a state-by-state guide to swarm removal experts.
Langstroth beehives are commonly used because they are easy to build. They have the advantage of placing honeycombs in the frame that allows for easy movement. Vertical stacking boxes provide a broader nesting area and allow the bees to easily move through different sections.
