A GE oven can be cleaned without oven cleaner by combining natural products, such as baking soda, water and vinegar. Coat the interior of the oven with the paste and let it sit overnight to work through the grease and grime before wiping down with a damp cloth.
An effective, natural paste for oven cleaning involves mixing a 1/2 cup of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of water. Home owners can apply the paste to the interior portion of the oven while wearing rubber gloves. The paste turns a brownish color after it sits on the surface for a few hours. After approximately 12 hours, the baking soda paste should loosen dirt, grime and grease from the oven surface and can be wiped away with a damp dish cloth. It may be necessary to use a silicone or plastic spatula to scrape off some of the paste.
To remove tough stains and remaining baking soda still on the interior of the oven, spray vinegar to the areas to create a foam reaction. The vinegar usually works with the baking soda paste to remove grease and hard-to-reach stains. The foamy vinegar and baking soda mixture can be wiped down with a damp cloth.
Oven racks should be removed prior to cleaning and can be soaked in a sink full of dish soap and warm water. A baking soda and water paste can also be applied to oven racks to remove stains.
