Used dryers can generally be disposed of in municipal landfills, but they often can be donated or recycled at a lower cost. Landfills typically charge money when accepting large items, and the heavy weight of dryers can make them expensive to dump.
Local charities, thrift stores and other organization may accept old dryers. Many of these organizations also offer pickup services, which can eliminate the cost of transporting a dryer. If the unit can't be repaired, recycling centers may offer a more affordable option as well. Dryers sometimes contain copper and other valuable metals, so scrap dealers may be willing to transport or even pay for a broken unit.
