Whirlpool does not offer conversion kits for its gas water heaters, although some people have converted their own units. However, the risks involved make such conversions dangerous.
Electrical water heaters are carefully designed to prevent the water from becoming electrified. An errant wire can cause the water heater, the water it holds and connected pipes to become dangerous, and unforeseen problems with the conversion can lead to electrocution. Water heaters are also highly pressurized, and compromised units can fail catastrophically. Even if care is taken to keep the unit intact while converting it, accidentally compromising the tank's integrity can cause the unit to blow apart.
