Ruud water heaters can only be bought from authorized Ruud independent HVAC contractors, as of 2015. At the top of the Ruud website, there is a toolbar that allows customers to search for local Ruud independent contractors in their areas based on their zip codes.

Ruud manufactures several different types of indoor water heaters, supplying both residential and commercial customers with targeted solutions. For residential customers, the company offers gas, electric, tankless gas and solar water heaters. Ruud produces three different lines of gas and electric hot water heaters: the Professional Ultra Series, Achiever Series and Achiever Plus Series. Of the three, the Professional Ultra Series features the most efficient models, many of which are ENERGY STAR rated.

Ruud water heaters are available in a variety of sizes and capacities. Ruud also manufactures one model of residential hybrid electric heat pump water heater that can provide both hot water and heating. This model is ENERGY STAR rated and features a 50-gallon capacity water heater.

Ruud manufactures numerous models of gas and electric water heaters for commercial applications. It also sells several different models of commercial hot water storage tanks, which range in capacity from 80 up to 940 gallons to meet most commercial requirements.

Ruud was founded in 1889 by Edwin Ruud, who invented the first automatic storage-tank, gas-fired water heater. Ruud was later merged with Rheem Manufacturing Company. The Humphrey Company of Kalamazoo, Michigan was absorbed by Ruud in 1913.

As of 2015, Rheem Manufacturing Company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Rheem Manufacturing Company does not have any physical store locations, but instead sells through the Internet.
