Gibson washer and dryers are no longer distributed in the United States. However, Gibson became a part of Electrolux in 1986, and its washers and dryers can be purchased at retailers throughout the United States. Retailers can be located at the Electrolux website under the Where to Buy link.
Gibson first started in the United States in 1877 as the Belding-Hall Company. The Belding-Hall Company began as an icebox-making company that was run by Joshua Hall. In 1908, Frank Gibson, who was also an icebox maker, purchased the Belding-Hall Company. Gibson grew to be the largest manufacturer of iceboxes during its early years. The company also began introducing other appliances and related products, including the first upright freezer in 1946.
The Gibson company became part of the Hupp Corporation in 1956, and then the Hupp Corporation was purchased by White Consolidated Industries in 1967. White Consolidated Industries was then purchased by Eletrolux, a Swedish company, 20 years later in 1986. Eletrolux sells more than 40 million products to customers in over 150 countries as of February 2015. Its products include washers, dryers, dishwashers, and ovens. It sells appliances both for home and professional use. Its U.S. headquarters are based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
