To build a solar panel at home, you need 240 aluminium cans, one 4 feet by 8 feet by 1/2 inch plywood sheet, one 4 feet by 8 feet sheet of Lexan or Plexiglas and heat resistant black spray paint. You also need high temperature silicone and a drill press.
To make the solar panel, construct a wooden frame and nail the plywood sheet to the back of this frame. Drill holes in the top center and bottom of the wooden frame. Drill large holes in the bottom and top of all the cans except for 16 cans for the bottom row. For these 16 cans, drill holes in the top and sides. Place the cans in the frame and create 16 columns of 15 cans in each. Seal them together with the high temperature silicon sealant and allow them to cure.
Spray the cans and the frame with the heat resistant black spray paint. Cover the cans and the frame with Lexan or Plexiglas. Cut holes in the side of the building and ensure that they line up with the holes at the top and the bottom of the wooden frame. Air from the building goes through the lower hole which is just above floor level, and returns into the building through the upper hole.
Mount the solar panel on the outside wall of your home. You may install a blower on the inlet or the outlet to make your solar panel more efficient.
