Splendide, LG, Haier and EdgeStar manufacture small washer/dryer combos. The smallest models are less than 34 inches high and 24 inches wide. Washer/dryer combos are available from major appliance stores, such as Best Buy, and specialty small appliance retailers, such as Camping World and Compact Appliance.
Washer/dryer combos save space, but they typically have a smaller capacity than standard-sized washers and dryers. Small washer/dryer combos have a capacity of 1.6 to 2.3 cubic feet. They can wash about 13 to 15 pounds of laundry, but they can dry only 6.6 to 11 pounds. LG offers a 4.3 cubic foot standard capacity washer dryer combo that is only several inches larger than many of the smaller models, including EdgeStar units from Compact Appliance.
A ventilation system is not required for most small washer/dryer combos allowing them to be placed in small, confined spaces that do not have easy access to an outside vent. To dry clothes, ventless combos utilize two separate air flows to remove moisture from clothes and the air. This drying process takes longer than conventional drying, and it adds an extra hour or two to the drying time. The additional running time of the appliance can lead to higher energy costs when compared to individual washer and dryer units.
