These Tassimo models were recalled because of the potential for the plastic T-Disc that holds the coffee grounds or tea leaves to burst, spraying hot material on users and bystanders, which can cause significant burns. At the time of the recall, there had been 140 reports of exploding T-Discs, including 37 reports of injuries involving second-degree burns.
According to the recall notice published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the units involved in the recall were sold at retailers nationwide from June 2008 through February 2012 for between $100 and $250. Consumers with a recalled unit are advised to stop using it immediately and contact Tassimo to order a free replacement T-Disc holder for the brewing mechanism.
Consumers can order the replacement by going to TassimoDirect.com and clicking on Safety Recall at the bottom of the page under the Product Support menu. Alternatively, consumers can contact the company by phone at 1-855-843-2487, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, as of February 2015.Learn more about Appliances
