Microwave vent hoods save space and time in the kitchen. They can be ducted or non-ducted, and some have features that will greatly enhance one’s cooking performance.
Microwave vent hoods, also called over the range microwaves or microhoods, eliminate the need for countertop microwaves which consume valuable countertop space. They feature a cook top light for illuminating the entire cooking surface, and many models have a night-light feature, ensuring a hazard-free visit to the kitchen during a midnight run. Over the range microwaves have built-in timers, which eliminate the need for portable ones, freeing up additional countertop space.
Some over the range microwaves have one or two oven racks that are excellent for warming or cooking two or three different foods at once. Thus, the consumer spends less time in the kitchen, and more time with family and friends. Some over the range microwaves have some advanced cooking features as well. According to GE Appliances, the GE Profile Advantium 120 above-the-cooktop oven has Speedcook technology that cooks oven quality food up to four times faster than a conventional oven. According to Electrolux Appliances, their over-the-range microwave has Cook-2-Perfection technology that uses a unique diamond design rear wall, plus a stirring fan and turntable to cook food evenly every time.
Over the range microwaves can vent odor, smoke and steam outside with the appropriate ductwork, or they can recirculate the exhaust inside the kitchen with a charcoal filter.
