Beautiful exterior door options include an antique door made out of reclaimed teak wood with inlays, panels full of carved Indian motifs and a four-panel transom window. Another, more modern door is a double door made of mahogany laid over a metal core. There is a medallion in the center, split in half between the two doors, with an inlay of triple glazed glass with brass caming.
Caming is the term for using a strip of soft metal to divide two adjacent pieces of glass.
Another type of door is a Spanish-Moorish-looking door made of knotty alder wood. It also has a metal core and comes with exterior brick molding and an interior casing. It is flanked by long and slender windows in metal cages that echo the small metal cage over the tiny, square window in the door.
An Art Deco exterior door is largely made out of glass with a frame of Douglas fir. Because the glass is etched and sandblasted, it allows light to come into the entry hall without compromising the household's privacy. Other, single doors also have sandblasted and etched panels that take up much of the door. These panels are in turn decorated with two-dimensional trees, flowers and even the waves of the ocean.
