What Is the Average Cost of a Water Bill Per Month?
The average American household water bill is $45 per month as of 2014. Monthly water bills vary according to place of residence, the rate of water consumption and utility infrastructure improvements.
Utility companies adjust water rates based on water availability, pipeline maintenance and water treatment procedures. Between 2010 and 2014, American households experienced a 5.2 to 6.6 percent rate increase; however, certain markets experienced a 50 percent rate increase. Households consuming 100 gallons of water per person experienced the smallest rate increase of 5.2 percent, while households consuming 150 gallons per person experienced the largest increase of 6.6 percent. Water bills may be reduced by limiting consumption and installing low-flow faucets.
