Feng shui generally refers to the Chinese art of placement. Many people use it is as a guide for decorating and arranging their home. Feng shui is meant to create a design and layout in the home that allows for the best flow of chi. While true feng shui encompasses a broad and diverse set of practices and beliefs, a simpler, narrower set of rules can be used to improve the layout of a home.
Color palette creates the overall mood of the space, and is therefore a primary consideration when redecorating with feng shui in mind. In general, colors used in the home should focus on earth and skin tones such as terra cotta, cocoa or peach. Calming colors such as sky blue, aqua or lavender as well as passionate colors such as reds or pinks can also be used to achieve the desired energy. However, these colors should be used as accent colors and should not dominate the space.
While the architecture of the home may not be easily changed, consider shape when purchasing new pieces of furniture. In general, avoiding sharp angles and corners reduces the level of negative energy in the home. If purchasing new furniture is not an option, use drapes or botanical arrangements to mask the unwanted angles.
After changing the furniture and color scheme of the home, maintain a feng shui environment by eliminating unwanted clutter as much as possible. Consider areas such as night stands, coffee tables, and counter space in this effort.Learn more about Interior Decorating
