Shabby chic dining furniture has a vintage look, so adding items like old-time pie safes, jam cupboards, vintage tea pots and serving dishes as accents works well. Depending on how rustic the kitchen is, consider a row of hooks, used to hang old fashioned strainers, jelly molds, graters and colanders. A vintage printed tea towel adds a nice touch as well.
Butcher block tables are often used in kitchen dining areas and are complemented by sterling silver cake servers, wire egg containers or even an old ceramic fruit bowl. Nearby, on the counter, display an old mixer, a waiting ceramic tea pot or an old cookie jar. Use any open kitchen shelves to display vintage china or glassware. Some like their kitchens on the cluttered side, with old fashioned knick-knacks just about everywhere.
If fixing up a shabby chic dining room, add an old sideboard. They are available with or without a marble counter-top, but most have top and bottom cupboard spaces, which may be filled to taste.
Shabby chic furniture may be authentic, old and weathered. However, another tactic is to take a newer piece of furniture, paint it, and then sand off the new paint in strategic places to give the piece a vintage look. An old recycled "door to nowhere" is another nice touch, as well as a conversation piece.
