Customers can use FirstEnergy as their electricity provider if their local area is served by Ohio Edison, Penelec, Toledo Edison, Penn Power, West Penn Power or Mon Power. The Illuminating Company, Jersey Central Power & Light and Met-Ed also offer power through FirstEnergy.
Through its branch companies, FirstEnergy provides energy to a 65,000-square mile area serving six million customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwestern regions of the United States, including parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, New York and New Jersey. The diversified energy company is one of the largest electric systems in the country that is investor-owned, and it is headquartered in Ohio. Its distribution lines cover more than 194,000 miles, and its generating fleet of hydro, scrubbed coal, non-emitting nuclear and natural gas plants has an 18,000-watt capacity. FirstEnergy is also one of the region's largest providers of green energy with long-term contracts providing more than 500 megawatts of wind power.
