Water baptism is the immersion of a believer in water by a minister, priest or some other religious authority. The purpose of this practice is to connect and commit the person being baptised with the holy trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Some Christians affirm that water baptism is an important act of obedience to their faith. They believe it cleanses the believer from sin and puts them on a path of righteousness. In the Bible's New Testament John the Baptist was sent by God to announce the coming of Jesus and baptize those who believed in the message.
