Some tips for easy pumpkin carving include using a fresh pumpkin and scooping away some of the inner wall of the pumpkin in addition to removing the pulp. Another tip is to use a simple pattern.
Large pumpkins offer more surface area to work with, making carving easier. Use a pumpkin that is sturdy and has no bruises. Pumpkins that are moldy or damaged are more difficult to carve and don't hold up well. Use a long, serrated knife or specialized pumpkin carving knife and cut using sawing motions. Large, bold patterns are much easier to cut out than small, intricate ones.
