Special days to celebrate in October include World Smile Day, Bosses Day and Sweetest Day. World Smile Day celebrates the popular yellow smiley face created by Harvey Ball in 1963. The day's intent is to make one person smile. It is celebrated on October 1 of every year since 1999.
Bosses Day was started in 1958 by Patricia Bays Haroski. She chose October 16th to celebrate it because it was her father's birthday. He was also her boss. Its intent is to show appreciation for your boss.
Sweetest Day is on the third Saturday of October. Candy company employee, Herbert Birch Kingston, created the day in 1922. He wanted to bring cheer to the less privileged by offering them small gifts and candy. Sweetest Day is still celebrated in the United States but now includes friends and romantic interests.
