What Is Offered in Amtrak Vacation Packages?

In addition to coach train tickets, Amtrak vacation packages often include hotel accommodations, transfers and meals. Passengers can upgrade these package components, and some packages include other forms of travel, such as cruises.

Amtrak Vacations offers both escorted and independent rail journeys. As of 2015, the American Heritage escorted tour offers rail travel to three cities, while the independent package offers an extra destination. The escorted package provides an Amtrak Vacations tour escort in addition to tour guides in each city. Both offer hotel accommodations and meals, although the escorted package provides extra meals. Transportation passes and a suggested itinerary are provided for each city on the independent journey.

Rail and Sail vacations combine cruises with rail travel. Passengers can explore New York City on a sightseeing tour and stay in a hotel for two nights before embarking on a cruise to Florida and the Bahamas. Transfers and a meal are included.

Amtrak Vacations also offers family vacations to Orlando, Philadelphia and San Diego. Packages include tickets to theme parks, such as Disney World, and historical sites, such as Gettysburg. Trips to museums, zoos and other attractions are also available.

Additional deals include vacations to national parks. Amtrak offers both short and long trips to Glacier National Park, while the Grand Canyon journey that spans two states and five cities lasts nine days.
