The Nice List is a list believed to be made by Santa Claus that contains the names of all the well-behaved children in the world. These children receive presents from Santa, which he delivers on Christmas Eve.
The Nice List became popular through the 1934 song "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." The list encourages good behavior, especially near Christmas, and is sometimes widened to include adults. A person can get on the Nice List by regularly telling the truth, completing chores, saying "please" and "thank you," keeping her room clean, providing Santa with a tasty snack, and generally embodying a friendly "Christmas Spirit." Santa Claus also maintains a Naughty List, which includes the names of all the poorly-behaved children.
