What to Do on New Year’s Eve

When the holiday season starts to wind down, many people start planning for New Year’s Eve. Think outside the box to find a fun and festive event. There are several unique New Year's Eve suggestions.

Go to a First Night Events
Many cities have First Night events so that their residents enjoy New Year’s Eve in safety. First Night festivities usually happen in the center of the city and are geared towards the entire family. In some cities, these events include fireworks and parades. Musical performances dot First Night festivities, and there may be plenty of great food to try.

Go Camping with Friends
Even though it is a little bit off the beaten path, going camping with friends is a terrific way to ring in the new year. Bring a picnic, toast marshmallows and spend time under the stars. Then, wait to ring in the new year with an improvised countdown. Find a spot to watch fireworks to add a bit of dazzling effect to the night.

Host a Dinner Party
There is no need to spend New Year’s Eve entirely outdoors. Create a cozy evening at home by hosting a dinner party with a New Year’s Eve theme. Gather friends around the table, and remember forget the glittery party hats. When it is time for the countdown, turn on the television and do so in the midst of good company.

Go Ice Skating
Find an ice skating rink that is open after hours and take some friends or a date for a fun way to end the year. Going ice skating is a festive way to ring in the new year. Taking a date on an icy New Year’s Eve stroll hand in hand is also a romantic idea.

Go to a Concert
Find a concert venue that runs past midnight and settle into a plush seat. For those living in a warm locale, some of these concerts may even feature fireworks at midnight. Go with a date or take some friends. Either way, the new year can start on a musical high note.

Take a Vacation
Ringing in the new year at a new locale can be an exciting way to spend the holiday. Pack bags and head to a secluded mountain cabin. Light a fireplace and watch a new day start over snow-capped mountains.

Go Bowling
Grab some friends and head to the nearest bowling alley. Create teams and start egging each other on with friendly competition. Stay up until midnight and ring in the new year with a strike.

Try Some Yoga
Find a late-night yoga studio in a nearby city and start the new year off on a healthy note. If a New Year’s resolution involves a healthier lifestyle, this is a creative and active way to ensure the year begins on a healthy note.

New Year’s Eve does not need to revolve solely around watching a crystal ball drop, although that can be part of any activity as well. However, changing the venue, activity and company adds a dose of excitement to New Year’s Eve festivities.
