Messages for a funeral card include "You are in my thoughts and prayers," "Thinking of you in these difficult times" and "Please know our loving thoughts embrace you." Appropriate expressions are often short, warm and caring. Simple sayings are generally not offensive, misunderstood or upsetting.
Sometimes people who send funeral cards want to include the name or the relationship of the deceased in the note. Samples of these include "I’m going to miss [name], too,” "Sharing in your sadness as you remember [name]” and "“Thinking of you as you celebrate your [relative's] remarkable life.” For card senders who know the deceased but not the family, it is helpful to mention that relationship. One example is "It was truly a pleasure working with your father. He will be deeply missed.”
