Making funny birthday cards involves starting with a clever template and adding a funny message. Examples of clever templates include cool cats, mechanical dogs and an age compass.
A mechanical dog birthday card involves printing out the necessary pieces and constructing cards that move when a tab is pulled. The birthday cards can feature stock images of dogs or personal pets. One example of a funny dog card starts with the message "Ha... Birthday." The receiver has to pull the tab to lift the dog's leg and reveal the "pee" that turns the message into the traditional "Happy Birthday."
To make a funky cat birthday card, fold a piece of card stock in half. Use ribbons with different patterns to create the cat head, attaching buttons for the eyes and nose. Glue the cat head to the card stock with the message "Wishing you a purr-fect birthday."
For the age compass, start with a sheet of card stock folded in half. Glue patterned paper with a series of numbers to the front. Cut out three successively smaller circles from patterned paper, and glue them stacked on top of each other. Attach a chipboard arrow to the card with an eyelet, and include the message, "So, you are how old?"
Any of the above cards can be customized by including funny messages such as, "To the nation's best secret -- your true age" or "Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional."
