Fold the fabric in half with the right sides or patterned sides together.
Use the pencil or pen to draw a stocking shape on top of the material. Cut out the shape. You should have two identical stocking-shaped pieces of fabric.
Without separating the two pieces of fabric, use a running stitch to sew the two pieces together. Leave the top of the stocking open.
Once you are finished with sewing, turn the stocking inside out so that the color or patterned side of material is on the outside and the sewn seams are on the inside.
Pin a strip of upholstery webbing along the top of the stocking. Sew it on.
Add bows or trim to the upholstery fabric as decoration.
Sew a loop of ribbon to the back of the stocking to allow it to be hung up.
