Two good holiday appetizers are miniature shrimp calzones and pan-fried onion dip. Five-star recipes for both appetizers are available through Food Network's website, as of August 2015.
To make miniature shrimp calzones, cooks must saute the shrimp with tomatoes, garlic, wine and spices; fold the mixture with mozzarella cheese into store-bought pizza dough; and bake briefly. This recipe takes about 30 minutes and yields 6 servings.
To make pan-fried onion dip, cooks must caramelize onions with spices and butter, then mix in cream cheese, sour cream and mayonnaise. This recipe takes about 70 minutes and yields 2 cups. Food Network recommends serving this dip at room temperature with vegetable sticks, chips or crackers.
