Good appetizers for parties include meatballs, stuffed mushrooms, mini crab cakes and spicy white cheese dip. Because crowds tend to gather at parties and celebrations, Southern Living recommends sticking to dips, spreads, and finger foods as the best party appetizers.
Party-perfect meatballs can be made in advance, reheated and kept warm in a Dutch oven or slow cooker. To make them, pulse chopped red onions, pitted kalamata olives, fresh mint leaves, parsley and lemon zest in a food processor. Pour into a bowl and stir in Japanese breadcrumbs, two large eggs, ground beef and ricotta cheese. Shape the mixture into bite-sized balls, and place in a baking dish. Brush the meatballs with a tomato paste mixture, and bake at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for about 12 minutes. To serve, skewer each meatball with a toothpick.
To make spicy white cheese dip, combine one small diced onion, diced tomatoes and two garlic cloves in a slow cooker. Add milk, ground cumin and black pepper to taste. Add 2 pounds of white American cheese cut into chunks. Cover and cook on the lowest setting for three hours to prevent the bottom of the dip from burning. Stir occasionally, and serve with tortilla chips.
