Early in the morning before the child wakes up decorate the child's room with balloons and birthday banners. Let the child have his or her favorite breakfast while seated on a decorated chair. A surprise party at school is a great idea if the birthday falls on a school day.
Invite the child's friends or classmates and let them appear as a surprise. Have the child's superhero or favorite fictional character appear for the birthday. If the child had been requesting something such as a bicycle, watching a favorite team play live or a special toy, make sure it features as the main gift.
Organize exciting games such as pinning a tail to a donkey and treasure hunt within the house. Hire a clown to entertain the children and take part in the party games. Take the child to his or her favorite destination, such as Disney World, if possible, with some friends or siblings.
Take a tape measure and measure the height of the child, congratulating him for the height gained in one year. Take some photos while having fun and let the child watch some pictures when he was a toddler. If possible, project the photo slide show for all the guests to see.
