Choir singing, dancing and the cinematic "Living Nativity," populated by local actors and special guests, take place during Portland's Singing Christmas Tree. The 300-member choir stands in and around a 30-foot aluminum tree structure, reports Artlandia. The original tree structure was just a few risers in a high school auditorium.
The holiday show dates back to 1962, according to the Singing Christmas Tree's official website. The early performances included choir members from one local church, but as of 2015, singers from 131 area churches participate in the show. The Singing Christmas Tree is a non-profit organization that accepts sponsorships from local businesses and donates tickets to charities.
