One example of an easy wedding cake recipe is the white wedding cake recipe from Homemade Dessert Recipes. This recipe is based on the cake from the 1913 Wilson-Sayre wedding.
To make this cake, start by preheating the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Next, cream 1 cup of shortening with 2 cups of sugar. In a separate bowl, sift 5 teaspoons of baking powder, 4 1/2 cups of baking flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Slowly stir the flour into the shortening and sugar mixture, and add 1 1/4 cup of sweet milk. Beat this mixture thoroughly, and set aside.
Beat 8 egg whites until they are stiff, add in 1 teaspoon of almond extract and 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Beat this mixture, and pour into 9-inch cake pan. Bake the cake for 1 hour and 10 minutes. To make a heart-shaped cake with this recipe, double the ingredients, and use one square pan and one round one. After they are done baking, place the square cake on a serving plate, and cut the round cake in half. Position the halves of the round cake along two sides of the square cake to form a heart. Frost and serve.
