As of 2014 children in the United States and Canada can call Santa Claus toll-free at 1-800-726-8222. The number is only available a few days before Christmas. Certain cellphone plans may add charges.
Santa Barbara businessman John Dickson donated his business line after getting phone calls from children who mistakenly thought they were dialing 800-SantaClaus. The calls are answered by volunteers. Children can choose to speak to one of Santa’s elves, Santa’s wife or Santa Claus himself. The most common question children ask when they call Santa Claus is, “Am I on the naughty or nice list?”
Children can also call the North Pole, as of 2014, at 951-262-3062 to hear a holiday greeting from Santa Claus and leave a message with their wish list. The area code is in California and long distance rates may be charged. In 2014 New Jersey radio station SoJO 104.9 invited children to call Santa’s cell phone at 609-910-5157 to hear a holiday greeting and leave a message.
On Christmas Eve children can call the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, at 877-446-672, to track Santa's progress and ask questions about where he is and when to expect him at their homes. Volunteers answer the calls at NORAD's Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
