Gary Larson greeting cards are sold by several online retailers, such as Redbubble.com, Cafepress.com, and Zazzle.com. Larson is best known for creating the comic "The Far Side," and many of his greeting cards feature scenes from the comic. As of 2015, Gary Larson greeting cards have been discontinued and are no longer being printed.
Gary Larson first created "The Far Side" in 1980 for a San Francisco newspaper. The comic was later syndicated and became a main stay with the newspaper until Larson retired in 1995. "The Far Side" was eventually printed in more than 1,900 newspapers, later leading to calendars, greeting cards and 23 compilation books. Both the calendars and greeting cards were discontinued in 2009, but some of the greeting cards can be still be purchased through greeting card and stationary websites.
The genius behind "The Far Side" was found in the artist's humorous presentation of humans and animals. Larson often focused on popular awkward social interactions and experiences. Animals were given human characteristics, allowing the artist to give people a look from another perspective. Larson's comics also sometimes had a disturbing twist to its humor. The artist's interest in animals was often attributed to his educational background in biology.
