What Businesses Are Open on Easter Sunday?

A variety of businesses are open on Easter Sunday for dining and last-minute shopping. As of 2014, these typically include major restaurants, such as Denny's, Applebee's, Olive Garden and T.G.I. Friday's, and big-box retailers, including Walmart and Super Walmart. Many major grocery stores and fast food restaurants remain open as well.

Fast food restaurants, such as Taco Bell, McDonald's, Subway, Pizza Hut and Jack in the Box, are usually open on Easter Sunday. It's best to call a specific location to ask for Easter hours of operation.

Grocery stores such as Safeway, Trader Joe's, Albertsons, Kroger and Whole Foods are usually open. Best Buy, Costco and Publix are not open, however, as of 2014. Most major drugstores, such as Walgreens and CVS, are also open.

Most 24-hour Walmart stores are open for business as usual. While Target is officially closed on Easter Sunday, as of 2014; some locations may remain open. Across the country, many malls are also open.

The operation of liquor stores on Easter Sunday varies and depends upon state laws. Some states, such as Arizona, have no restrictions on selling alcohol on Easter Sunday, as of 2014. Check local liquor stores and businesses selling alcohol for any restrictions.

Some businesses are closed on Easter Sunday. Most federal and state government offices are closed. Banks are also closed. Individuals should check local listings for private organizations and parks open for Easter Sunday festivities.
