To stay off of Santa's naughty list, children should listen to their parents, perform good deeds and speak in a kind way to everyone that they meet. Parents can help promote these behaviors by reminding children of the happiness that Santa feels when they listen or help others.
Parents should not use Santa as a threat to children. They should give their children simple, short and specific tasks to accomplish so that the child can easily follow the rules. Parents should also remind children that the Christmas season is about helping others and giving to others just as much as it is about receiving. Children who are too focused on the gifts that they expect to receive are likely to miss out on the true meaning of Christmas and to behave badly.
