The Xbox 360 was launched on Nov. 22, 2005, in the United States and in December of that same year in Japan and Europe. Upon its launch, the console gaming system sold out fast in the United States and Europe, though sales were slower in Japan.
Over 1.5 million Xbox 360 consoles were sold and shipped just two months after its release date. Unfortunately, the first consoles released had problems with what was called the "red ring of death," which showed red flashing lights on the console and resulted in the system shutting down completely. Microsoft worked hard to correct the problem and released new versions of the console in the next year. In 2009, sales for the Xbox 360 got a boost with the release of the Kinect. By 2010, over 39 million consoles were sold.
