Entries in the Lay's "Do Us A Flavor" potato chip flavor contest included Cappuccino, Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese, Mango Salsa, Wasabi Ginger and Cheesy Garlic Bread. Lay's has held multiple flavor contests. Cheesy Garlic Bread won the first contest in 2013 and Wasabi Ginger won the second in 2014.
During the submission phase for each contest, participants submit their entries through Twitter, Facebook, text message or DoUsAFlavor.com, as of July 2015. Entries must include the participant's name, the flavor name, a maximum of three ingredients and the chip style, such as original, wavy or kettle-cooked. Lay's sometimes adds a theme to the contest, such as locations, where the participant must include the area that gave him his flavor idea.
A panel that includes chefs, flavor experts and "foodies" judges the submissions and chooses four finalist flavors. Lay's creates those flavors and releases them in stores for a limited time. After the flavors are in stores, Lay's holds a voting period during which people vote on their favorite flavors. The flavor that receives the most votes wins the contest, and the creator of that flavor receives a grand prize. The creators of the other three finalist flavors each receive runner-up prizes.
Lay's sometimes re-releases runner-up flavors for a limited period of time.
