Paint, ribbon, glitter, permanent markers and washi tape are some craft materials that work well for decorating pumpkins. Design ideas include traditional jack-o-lantern faces, Halloween images or general decorations such as stripes or polka dots.
Paint is a common way to decorate a pumpkin without carving. Paint allows for almost any design in any color. Paint the entire pumpkin a base color with contrasting colors to make the design. You can also use other types of paint such as metallic colors or chalkboard paint. Using chalkboard paint allows you to draw different designs on the pumpkin with chalk.
Glitter is an option for adding accents or sparkly designs. Make the desired design with glue and sprinkle glitter on top of it before it dries. Another option is to use glitter spray paint to add sparkle to the entire pumpkin. Buttons and gemstones also work for adding dots of sparkle and color to the pumpkin. Use hot glue to place them in the desired pattern on the outside of the pumpkin.
Ribbon works well for decoration as well. Use hot glue to place a strip of ribbon around the middle of the pumpkin, or tie a bow with it at the top. To easily cover the entire pumpkin, wrap it in black tulle and tie the tulle at the top with ribbon.
Washi tape is another way to get lines or stripes on a pumpkin. The tape comes in different colors and patterns and sticks directly to the pumpkin.
