Wrinkles can be removed from silk by hovering an iron over it. However, care must be taken when using this method since silk is a very delicate fabric and quite sensitive to heat.
There are a few steps necessary to follow to get wrinkles out of silk.
Determine on which side of the fabric is the sheen. Turn silk clothing inside out since the dull side of the silk is on the inner surface of the clothing. The heat from the iron will be applied on the dull side of the fabric to avoid damaging the sheen.
Lay the fabric on the ironing board with the dull side of the wrinkled area facing up. Smooth out any creases on the fabric.
Preheat the iron to its lowest setting. Place the thin dish cloth on top of the wrinkled part of the fabric.
Once the iron is hot enough, hold the hot plate of the iron about half an inch above the dish cloth. Move the iron just hovering above the dish cloth until the creases are smoothed out. This usually takes around 30 seconds.
Repeat the process over the other wrinkled parts of the fabric. Hang the material on an appropriate hanger until next use.
