Images for Groundhog Day printables often feature stylized depictions of a groundhog emerging from his burrow following winter, or real photos of a groundhog itself. These printables typically include coloring pages, puzzles, posters and writing frames.
Groundhog Day was established in 18th century Pennsylvania, and has roots in European folklore. It is celebrated on Feb. 2 annually. According to legend, the groundhog can predict an early spring. If it emerges from its burrow on a cloudy day, tradition holds that spring will arrive early. However, if the groundhog emerges to see its shadow on a sunny day, winter will persist for an additional six weeks. Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, holds the world's largest Groundhog Day celebration every year.
