Tiny Tears dolls are manufactured by American Character Doll Company and were first introduced in 1950. The dolls are marked on the back of their heads with the company name and/or patent number. However, It may be difficult to identify a Tiny Tears doll by this method.
The original models are made from rubber, which eventually falls apart due to extended exposure to sunlight and water. The dolls have two holes on the sides of their noses where 'tears' flow out and have rock-a-bye eyes that close when a child rocks the doll rather than putting it in a horizontal position. The most common models are dressed in pink and white and have auburn or brunette hair.
