Suede is not a waterproof material. Water does not destroy suede completely, but it can cause spots and damage the material somewhat. There are many different ways to clean suede fabric and to make it waterproof.
Suede should not be worn in rain since it is easily susceptible to water. Waterproofing is recommended to protect the material. Many waterproofing products are geared towards suede material. Collonil Classic Waterstop, for example, is a waterproofing spray that protects suede from water and also provides ultraviolet protection. Kits that help clean stains and scuffs from suede without the use of water are also available.
