Solar Flare Dragon is a pyro-type effect monster in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game series with 1,500 attack points and 1,000 defense points. The card's effect protects it from an opponent's attack if another pyro-type monster is controlled by the same person. The opponent loses 500 life points at the end of each turn of the player who controls Solar Flare Dragon.
This card is a level four, which means it can be brought into play without sacrificing another monster on the field. Duelists are allowed three Solar Flare Dragon cards in a deck. Due to the card's effect, if one player has two Solar Flare Dragon cards on the field simultaneously, the opponent cannot attack with monsters.
Solar Flare Dragon is part of what is called a burn deck, which is an archetype of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards that slowly lowers an opponent's life points on each turn. As of August 2014, there are 101 pyro-type monsters that fit into this game plan. Volcanic Doomfire and Blaze Fenix are two of the most powerful monsters in a burn deck because these cards can cause an opponent to lose several thousand life points in a single turn.
Solar Flare Dragon first came out in 2004, and the card was reissued with a "super rare" designation in 2012. This card was produced in five different card sets between 2004 and 2012.
