To make a Smurf hat, gather a marker, fleece, scissors, sewing pins and a sewing machine; a hat pattern is optional. If you do not have a pattern, draw the side profile of the hat shape onto the fleece, making sure that the width fits your head.
Generally, hats for children should have a length of 10 inches, while adults should have a length of 13 inches. Make sure to consider a seam allowance of about 1/4 inch on all edges. After you draw the pattern on, cut along the marked lines, and use the pattern to trace an identical shape onto another piece of fleece; cut out the other shape.
Fold the bottom of the pattern about 1/4 inch with the fuzzy side folded inward, and hem the bottom using a sewing machine or by hand. Flip the patterns so that the fuzzy sides face out, and place the halves together so they align perfectly. Connect both pieces with pins 1/4 inch from the edge for seam allowance, but do not pin the bottom part of the hat. Sew the outer edges together along the pinned line, make sure the hat properly fits, and then proceed to sew along the lines once more. Once complete, flip the hat inside out.
