In Crazy Eights, the winner is the first to discard all cards by matching the number or suit of the previous discard. If an eight is played, the only matches are another eight or a suit named by the player playing the eight.
The dealer distributes the cards face up, clockwise to each player, starting with the player sitting on his left. For two players, each receives seven cards; if there are more than two, each person receives five cards. Whatever cards are left are placed face down in the center of the table. The dealer then turns the top card, or starter card, in the center over into a new pile. If an eight is turned at this stage, it is returned to the middle of the pack and the next card is turned instead.
The player to the dealer's left starts play, and must place one card face up on the new pile that is either the same suit or the same number as the starter card. If the player does not have a relevant card, he must draw from the face down pile. If the pile is empty, the player's turn is passed. A player is allowed to draw a card even if he has a card that can play in his hand. All eight cards are wild and can be played at any time with the player indicating which suit he wants played next.
